Shuttle bus to downtown.  Buy a one day pass if you think you’ll use the streetcar. 600 yen.  Get a free map of stops/attractions.  Take Ropeway (cable car) to top of Hakodate Mountain.  $13.50

Hakodate Highlights (4 hours).  The tour includes about one hour of walking, steep terrain to negotiate at Motomachi.  Drive to Motomachi area for twenty minutes.  Guide Walk around Motomachi area for about one hour, ten minutes.  Visit Mt. Hakodate in a Cable Car for 55 minutes.  Drive for 20 minutes to next stop.  Visit Hakodate Morning Market for 55 minutes.  Take a ten minute walk back to the ship.  

Motomachi area is noted for its many scenic spots which can be walked in a couple of hours or so.  The view of the harbor looking down from Hachimanzaka is suggested as well as  its many other historical buildings and churches such as the Former British Consulate of HakodateHakodate is a port town facing the Tsugaru Strait in the southern part of Hokkaido. There are many buildings of both Western style and a blend of Japanese and Western styles.  The surrounding area contains important cultural assets such as the Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward and the Hakodate Orthodox Church and is designated a Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings based on the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties.  Photographers love Hakodate.
