9/19/2019. Edinburgh Castle.

Edinburgh Castle (Skip the line Entry) Edinburgh Castle Entrance is a historic fortress built on Castle Rock located in Edinburgh City Center.  Opens at 9:30 and last entry is 5:00 due to 6:00 closing.  Tickets can be purchased in advance online.  There are regularly scheduled performances by costumed performers. You can follow an itinerary or use an audio guide.  The castle has been a royal residence, military garrison, prison, and a fortress.  Mons Meg is one of the greatest medieval cannons.  There are bronze guns known as the Seven Sisters that create the Half Moon Battery (1:00 salute).  The Argyle Battery has six more guns that face to the north.  The Honours of Scotland are the oldest of the Crown jewels in Britain.  Mary Queen of Scots’ coronation was the first time the crown, sceptre, and sword of state were used.   The Edinburgh Castle Military Tattoo is held in August.

Edinburgh Castle three cranes were dismantling the bleachers that were set up for the Military Tattoo in August.

Location and six locked gates were a part of the defense.

Under Queen Victoria’s  reign this dog cemetery was created for the soldiers’ dogs.

We walked up a spiral path to get to the top.  Almost there.

View of the city below.  Some of the Seven Sisters cannons.

Guard museum, prison museum and War Memorial are in some of the many buildings.

King James VI of Scotland and also King James I of England.  There were displays of historic events on the way to see the Crown Jewels of Scotland.  No pictures of the jewels.  In another part of the palace was a timeline of royalty with paintings.
