9/20/2019. Ruins below the Minster in York.

Paint on the walls from Roman Times.  I believe this was in the barracks so the rest of the place was probably more colorfully decorated.

Doom Stone from the first Norman Minster. Looks scary to me.  There was a description, but I couldn’t see what they described.  I guess these ghouls are stoking the fires of hell.

A rare find, a person’s face on an Anglo-Saxon gravestone.

Vine scroll carving on a part of a tall elaborate cross from around 800 AD.  Tree of Life or True Vine is the symbol of salvation and everlasting life.

From around 1000AD, child’s grave marker.  Rare for a child to have a marker at all.  This child was probably part of wealthy family as this is a custom-made stone.  The cross to the edges represents the length, width, depth and height of God’s love.

Old stone work incorporated into a newer version.
